Tail light function does not work but brake function works

These bulbs were purchased to replace the #2057 tail/brake light bulbs on my 1956 CJ5. I needed something brighter for my 6V night driving system and thought this might help. The brake light function worked but the rear didn't and at night you need both. I tried the same brand but a red set from another seller and they didn't work properly either - same problem: brake light ok, tail light not working. Bought another brand at the same time and they work as they should. I'm not sure what's wrong, but these lightbulbs aren't the answer for me.
