I have 8 full kitchen canisters on this shelf and it is not bowing. I am not quite sure what the metal is nor do I really care. It holds my canisters and gadgets, it looks like stainless steel, it is a great size for a smallish space and it does not bow. Also, it does not clang if you move something on it. It has not scratched either. Magnets will NOT stick to this metal.

- The flat surface of the shelf makes it difficult to clean, collecting grime and dirt over time
