Our previous dog beds have been foam rubber or with pillows. They seem to lose their shape quickly and are difficult to wash. Also, our dog likes to rub his snout on the bed after eating (must have some raccoon in it ;-). His "washing" always caused his bed to slide across the floor. This Petmate bed handles the slip problem perfectly. In addition, the tarpaulin is easy to wipe down and wash by removing the foam-covered panel from the Velcro pocket and disassembling the frame. It's not hard to do, but I wouldn't want to. To solve the linen problem and give the dog a little extra cushion, we bought an inexpensive fleece blanket that we fold and put on the bed. The dog spreads the blanket out as he pleases and he (the blanket, not the dog) can easily be washed in the washing machine. Better than anything. The wife agrees.
