I tried this pen because I LOVE the original Ultra Pets formula but was hoping this pen would solve some of the tracking issues I was having with the other. I was disappointed in many ways. I don't think he's been chasing any less (and gosh, those crystals are hard on the legs!). Odor control wasn't as good, and while I didn't have the terrible problem of the absorbency occasionally leaving a wet mud, it wasn't as good as the original either. And if your scoop is like mine, throw out flawless junk with every scoop because some of the crystals are just too big to go through. Using this formula confirmed my theory as to why absorbency and odor control were so much better in the original fill than any other fill I've used. The round crystals in the original formula don't pack as tightly together, allowing air to circulate, allowing the silica crystals to shed moisture. None of the tiny crystalline fillers can compete in this aspect, no matter what brand they are. I'm going back to the original Ultra Pet cat litter.
