These breeches are very soft and stretchy but not translucent. I was pleasantly surprised at their length - I'm about 5ft 10" and 135lbs and ordered 28L. They fit perfectly and easily reach my ankles. The calves are pretty tight as they should be. They don't go up while I'm driving. They're a bit thick so I'm not sure I'd recommend them for very hot summer days, but they should be great for fall and spring rides. My only criticism is that the ankle velcro is a little annoying - the ankles are really too tight for the amount of velcro and the scratchy side of the velcro faces the skin. But socks underneath should be fine.
