I thought I needed a flat blued metal whisk for my Kitchenaid but after washing the dishwasher once I changed my mind and went back to the coated whisk. Little did I know you couldn't clean a metal mallet in the dishwasher and it oxidized so badly that I couldn't use it. I had my last coated whisk for over 15 years before I had to replace it, so given the cheap replacement cost I have decided to stick with the coated whisk from now on. If a stainless steel whisk was available I would definitely buy one even if the cost would be higher because you never have to replace it. From what I could find out, the stainless steel whisk is only available on the larger industrial model. I love my Kitchenaid and accessories!
