Great portable/micro antenna - an obvious compromise but good value for money

If you ever need a portable antenna to transmit or receive or something for on the go this is a great option. Yes - it's a helical antenna with compromise - obviously you can't get a perfect signal on 40/80 meters with something a few feet tall. Is it as good as a 30 foot vertical on a fiberglass pole? Of course not - you sacrifice portability and ease of use for a somewhat "invisible" capability. I didn't use the included tuning instructions - my radio has a built in gauge and I was usually able to set it up within 2-3 minutes. Extend the antenna. If you move up or down in the range, you will most likely need to retune. I have used this on a tripod in my garden with a Yaesu FT-891 on battery power and no tuner and I have been able to QSO with an SWR below 1.5 with no problem. At 20 meters I heard a (foreign language) DX station. I haven't tested past 20/40/80 because that's the ranges I use. It would also make a great FT8 antenna - I wasn't transmitting but was able to tune into FT8 frequencies and hear digital transmissions clearly. I'm taking it with me on vacation this summer. The connection jumper appears to be standard mini bananas. I think I should get a spare as it's easy to lose. Don't forget to move this jumper when you change groups!
