Excellent HF antenna for portable use

Exactly what my fiancΓ© needs for HF portable use from 160m to 2m (except 60m) and up to 100 watts. The quality of the materials used made the connection of the different elements easy to assemble.

Pros
  • Dope πŸ”₯
Cons
  • Unsafe

It's right there in the manual

I've seen reviews from people saying they spent hours tuning this antenna. The manual clearly states that you must use an antenna tuner with this antenna. The narrow bandwidth makes manual tuning difficult, the tuner makes it easy.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • disappears

Do you want to be portable? it's not that.

I love being mobile or just plain portable MADE IN JAPAN that says it all but good luck with your SWR. Next time you'll spend hours setting it up again. Nice concept, but impractical due to the long construction time. I used this without antenna tuner.

Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Not the best

About what you expect.

If you have something to play with then it's perfect. Of course, high performance is not to be expected from an antenna of this size, but I found it perfectly adequate for tuning and monitoring. I clipped this antenna to the side of my Icom backpack and made two or three telegraph contacts on 20 and 17M while sitting on a beach park bench with KH6. (less than 75 feet from the water). A good counterbalance really helps.

Pros
  • A sea of positive emotions
Cons
  • Updates

Will not stand properly

I installed it in my garden to test it in the winter field. No matter what I did, I couldn't set it up properly. Apparently the antenna is preset too low. I used a counterbalance and did whatever was suggested. On my NanoVNA I could see the SWR dip and adjust the frequency by shortening the telescope section, but as I got closer to frequency the telescope section was at its minimum length. This happens every time the jumper is set. No matter what range I would use the jumper to set, I was able…

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Empty

If you ever need a portable antenna to transmit or receive or something for on the go this is a great option. Yes - it's a helical antenna with compromise - obviously you can't get a perfect signal on 40/80 meters with something a few feet tall. Is it as good as a 30 foot vertical on a fiberglass pole? Of course not - you sacrifice portability and ease of use for a somewhat "invisible" capability. I didn't use the included tuning instructions - my radio has a built in gauge and I was usually…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires an outlet
