Review on 🐰 Oxbow Bunny Basics - Young Rabbit Food with Alfalfa Hay - 5 lbs: Optimal Nutrition for Growing Rabbits by Amy Moore

Great nutrients, good for small animals

When we got our dwarf rabbit we decided to take care of him as best we could. We went in search of great treat-free pellets to meet their small dietary needs. Nothing compares to the Oxbow brand and I have seen many show rabbit breeds use them exclusively. It really seemed to be for the best. We had our baby girl when she was about 2 months old. She was fed a kind of Kaytee pellet mix that was full of dry bits, seeds, and other rabbit "candies." Like a child, if you give an animal a bag of candy mixed salad, it will only choose and eat candy. Our rabbit was definitely showing signs of wanting only dry food at first and then resorting to pellets. We first bought the back of these Oxbow pellets from Revain. I then chose Kaytee branded treats and mixed them 50/50 in their bowl to get them used to the switch. Eventually I downsized Kaytee and she chose Oxbow. What I immediately noticed was when I mixed the two brands together, it was obvious that she still preferred Oxbow. (Kaytee's pellets are fatter so it was easy to tell which pellets she was saving last.) She's a year old now and we've switched our adult rabbit diet to Oxbow. She is very healthy, not overweight and looks like a happy bunny. I'm glad we made the switch to make sure she gets exactly what she needs. As with most small animals, diet is very important and once an animal becomes ill it can die very quickly before you even know it is serious. This is the item I always recommend to rabbit owners.
