Nice for photos, hard on the eyes when working with text

I've been waiting a long time to upgrade from my 17" monitor to a larger flat screen. I originally wanted a Samsung 226BW 22" monitor, but felt I could use the extra space that a 24" monitor offers. The HP monitor had the best wow factor of any monitor I looked at and I finally took the bullet and made the purchase. There are two main things I do with my computer (besides email ): Photo editing and software development. .For photography, this monitor is fantastic. The glossy screen gives photos an effect that is difficult to reproduce on a matte screen. I also found that the color accuracy on this monitor is very good. Now that's it Drawback for the software A large screen would allow me to open multiple windows at the same time with a large number of source code files It worked fine but I found that my eyes really hurt after a day of reading and editing text in front of the screen, so much so that I wasn't really looking forward to sitting down at my desk and working on my project the next day. Being able to work with software was more important to me than photos, so I had to bite the bullet again and hand HP back for my original choice, the 226BW's matte finish. I now use my old 17" screen alongside my new 22" screen and have the features I want without the eye strain I had from the W2408.
