Too bad I had my previous bed for 10 years. Impressive! So I finally decided to replace my bed with an 8 inch Lucid Gel and memory foam mattress. First the packaging. The box arrived in good enough condition to ensure the safety of the mattress during transit. When the mattress was removed from the box it was sealed and wrapped in a tight protective plastic. No moisture, stains or dirt after the plastic is removed. Lucid provided a handy plastic cutter (similar to a post opener) to avoid damaging the mattress in the process. (Thanks!) Second, the installation. Very simple: simply place the vacuum mattress on the spring block and unfold it. Then use the included tool to break up the plastic and let the mattress rise like pizza dough for a few hours. My theory is that these mattresses will rise based on the humidity and temperature in your home. The hotter and wetter it is, the longer it rises. Mine grew to a full 7 3/4 inches in 45 minutes. Third, my feelings. Many in the reviews complained about the "horrible chemical smell". Every nose is different. To me it smelled similar to the smell of a new car. Great smell. It faded drastically in two days. So if you are sensitive I can use another bed or sofa and air it out before use. Plain and simple, it doesn't smell bad. Sitting on the bed for the first time was very comfortable. I'm a heavy guy so it flattened out quickly since I bought the plush model. But when I lie on it: It supports my whole body very well and doesn't flatten me out. I feel like I'm on a cloud! Super comfortable. Getting up is also easy with minimal effort as some mattresses require some strength as you sink in like a brick. My old mattress had very bad back pain, it was also foam and had a firmness of 5 inches. Feel so much better after switching to the Lucid 8"! My back pain was drastically reduced after the first night, my sleep improved as well. I work nights so I sleep during the day and sleep about 2-3 hours more than on an old one Mattress. Now I sleep a full 8-9 hours instead of 4-6. Mattress surface stays cool, no hot spots! The gel really works! Fourth, weight. Foam mattresses are known to weigh like sandbags! It's very light and keeps its shape once you put it in take your hand. This can change with age but for now it's super easy! For the price it's similar to one of those tempurpedics. I say buy and look no further!
