Radios as advertised, very good and factory programmed. These radios are very capable of transmitting on all GMRS, FRS and HAM frequencies so you should probably purchase a license. The documentation that comes with them is pretty terrible when it comes to explaining what everything does/means. For a beginner this will be difficult. If you know what you're doing, at least a little, these little radios are great. You'll need to buy a programming cable to use their full potential because they can't hop to the most useful frequencies to listen or transmit straight out of the box. (As with Wetter/ATIS, it's not like you need to broadcast these frequencies anyway, but you can't hear them either). Once you unlock them properly, they work like a dream. You can hear everything from air traffic to some small police station radio frequencies. I can bounce off local repeaters and be picked up from a surprisingly large distance, like I'm in the neighborhood. Buy with confidence when you know what you are doing.
