NOT 14" when folded. I bought this tripod for travel. When you travel with your own gear, you know that an inch can make a world of difference. This tripod is advertised as "ULTRA COMPACT - weighs only 2.8 pounds and is 14 inches long". Sorry but it folds down to 15 1/4 inches. While it doesn't seem like much, attaching a tripod to your camera bag as a personal flying item makes a world of difference. Now I'm afraid I'll have to take this in my hand luggage, which means I'll have to leave something at home. Or I have to pay extra for a separate personal item. It seems durable and lightweight. I'm going to Alaska in a couple of weeks, I'll let you know how the tripod works there.
