Review on πŸ”Œ Syba Mini PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Network Controller Card with 10/100/1000Mbps RJ45 LAN NIC, RTL8168C Chipset by Melvin Balamani

Works well although it can be difficult to fit into ultra-compact systems

Works quite simply. My only complaint is that the 10-pin Dupont connector that protrudes straight out of the top of the mini PCI-e card can get in the way in low-profile systems. I have used this in a Dell Optiplex 790 USFF for a second LAN. It actually didn't "fit" so I made a longer multi-pair CAT 6 cable and routed it through the back of the Wi-Fi antenna cutout, but I got it to work. Windows drivers work great and I find them easily recognized by recent Linux and FreeBSD updates as well (I'm also considering using this for a PFSense router, I'll update if I run into any compatibility issues) .

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Frequency
