Review on Ultimate USB Programming Cable for BTECH, BaoFeng, πŸ”Œ Kenwood & AnyTone Radios: BTECH PC03 FTDI Genuine USB Cable by Jason Rogness

Revainrating 4 out of 5

True FTDI chip, plug and play on Windows 7, works fine with CHIRP

I have a couple of UV-5R radios that I want to program so they all have one have general configuration. Some radio settings (e.g. changing the startup message to display custom text, naming saved memory channels) are only available with computer programming, while other radio settings (e.g. memory channel setup, CTCSS/DCS noise reduction settings, power supply, etc.) are possible via the wireless keyboard, but very difficult. With this cable, everything is very simple: it plugs and play into Windows 7, and Windows Update automatically installs the driver in a minute or two. It should work out of the box on Mac and Linux systems as it uses the original FTDI chip (hence the higher cost compared to other similar cables). The cable is well made with good strain relief on the various connectors. It shows up as a serial port and is immediately recognized by the CHIRP software. Communication with radio stations was fast, direct and error-free.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Fair enough, but...
