I am a single person and very active. I drink more water than most people around me. They last about 6 months each for me. I had a pair that lasted even longer. It constantly filters nice clear drinking water for many jugs to fill. It's pretty easy for me to tell when I need a new one. The taste starts to change and the water gets darker. I simply wash the entire jug with a mild plant-based soap and towel dry while soaking the new filter before first use. Then I wash the filter and put it in place, it's that simple.
