This thing works great. I used it as part of a much larger project for my church, adding a keystone wall plate with USB, extra audio and extra HDMI to be able to connect other equipment to our projector. Used a keystone wall plate and brush plate to hide the pc behind the "wall" into the audio room and still have access to all the components in the chapel (we have a pretty small church). There is a PC monitor mounted on the hinged wall and we have a really clean look. Why we need this active HDMI to VGA adapter: We already had a 22.5m VGA cable running from the projector through the ceiling into the audio room. The projector only has VGA and DVI inputs. We could use an additional DVI input (with or without an HDMI adapter), but that introduced another problem - we would have to switch the input on the projector ourselves. We'd prefer to be able to switch it from where we're actually working with the designed gear. The remote control for the projector cannot reach the projector from the back of the chapel. ** I also installed a manual C2G VGA switch so we can switch between our existing main PC and the wall attached PC right where we will be working from. All this to say that this product works perfectly despite being connected via: any device that uses HDMI to connect via this adapter (tested on my laptop and also on my surface pro 3 with mini display) . to HDMI Adapter, both successful) -> HDMI Keystone Wall Adapter -> Cable Matters Active HDMI to VGA Adapter -> VGA goes to Cables to Go 03364 2-Port HD15 VGA Manual Switch Box -> From switch box goes to projector. The main PC is also connected to the junction box. The audio part of this active HDMI adapter is output to the sound card, which also works perfectly. We had a surge protector with built-in USB charging ports, so getting power was as easy as plugging directly into the surge protector. Or use a USB power adapter. A NOTICE. THIS DOES NOT COME WITH AN AC ADAPTER TO POWER THE USB CABLE.
