Thanks to the other reviewers for mentioning that the bottle arrives sealed. I thought I just couldn't understand it. Many suggested the point of a knife, but I decided I would definitely cut off my fingers. I decided to heat the tip of the awl and it went through the plastic insert like butter. I made 3 holes to allow the air to escape when pouring. it's not perfect, but my appendages are intact. I still had the original bottle of oil that came with my Juki sewing machine. I ended up pouring a small amount of oil into a paper cup and then squeezing the empty bottle and basically sucking the oil out of the cup. Again, not glamorous, but it worked well. I hope this helps another reviewer who didn't know how to fill the empty bottle that the machine came with. I understand that a bottle cannot leak during transportation, but surely there must be a better way.
