Update: I just saw the new version, says the 'protected' light has been dimmed. So I bought one. No, the light, while not quite the bright neon sign of the original, is still too bright for those of us who need a dark bedroom. Can't do without light at all? I'll try opening it up and removing the LEDs next. Still a great device. Good product. Installed in my bedroom to accommodate a few lights and chargers in an area where power outlets are scarce. I love that it brings all those plugs and cords together. What I don't like is that crazy light stripe at the top. In another room it could double as a night light, but in my bedroom it's like a neon flashlight in the middle of the night! The tape didn't stick and the acrylic paint didn't kill it because it still glows under the white plastic case, but at least enough light for me to handle. While I appreciate the indication that the surge protector is working, it's too much. But I like the device so much that I immediately order another boot for another room.
