I'm not a music lover. I know what bass is, but I can't pinpoint exactly what it does or what IEM stands for. I'm someone who grew up wearing headphones that you can get at Walmart for as little as $20 or $30. I chose the Zune Premium headphones (the ones with the fabric cord). Since the Zune is long gone I have collected as many pairs as I can but now I have the last pair. I saw these moondrops in an offer and immediately noticed the color and the shine. I've never seen headphones with a detachable cable. I've had bad luck with headphones because the audio cuts out too early in one ear, either due to the wiring or the way I use them. I'm not rude to them at all, but they all annoy me too easily. So headphones with a detachable cable that I could replace were an automatic win. I'll just mention the packaging, because that's not what I bought it for. The presentation was excellent and impressive. I love that a small case was included with the extra screens in case the originals needed to be replaced. People have mentioned that the cord gets tangled easily and I can see it, but it doesn't seem to be any more prone to tangles than any other brands I've had. I can't comment on the quality of the cable, but I can comment on the quality of the headphones themselves. Wow! They feel solid and well constructed. It took me a while to figure out how they fit in my ears and even how to connect the cables. On the cords are very small "L" and "R" letters, on the left an earpiece with a compass and on the right one that says "Starfield". They fit my ears damn well and I was surprised at how comfortable they are. I wear them for hours and have had no issues with tenderness or fatigue in my ears. I don't think I would recommend wearing them while exercising. I wear them when cleaning the apartment but they tend to slip out due to their weight combined with sweat. I have a very wide range of music that I love, almost everything except rap and R&B. So I put these little ones in my ears and tested them with a Sony NW-A45/B Walkman. I mainly listened to rock, trance, country, new age etc to test how they sounded. While I've never really messed around with the equalizer on MP3 players, I have with them. The sound and tone differences in the songs I tested were wonderful, and it was like hearing them for the first time without the haze of regular headphones. I could hear more instrumentals and vocals that weren't entirely clear to me before. The only aspect of these headphones that disappoints me is the deeper bass songs. I don't hear the same punchy bass that I'm used to. I don't blame Moondrops for that, but I'm probably so used to listening to songs with more deeply grounded headphones for years. While I'd love to hear something for a few thousand dollars to see the difference I hear, I'm very happy with these Moondrops. While I can pop in my old Zunes and hear the songs I'm used to, I appreciate the quality and difference in sound these headphones make. To be honest I don't think I can go back to regular headphones/earbuds after such good sound quality. One last thought. While listening to them, I encountered a glitch/problem. I heard noises and pops in the left earbud, but they disappeared as soon as they appeared. If this happens again I will replace them and also update my rating on the durability of these headphones. If you are considering these and can afford them, I would recommend buying them. I doubt you'll be disappointed unless you're an audiophile and can't understand sound quality much better than I can. EDIT: Finally, after 3 months, one of the headphones had a chip in the paint. Seal it with some clear nail polish. Note: I did NOT receive this product for free or at a discount. I paid for this product entirely with my own money.
