Review on πŸ” Cable Matters 4K 60Hz HDMI Matrix Switch: High-Speed 18Gbps HDMI 2.0 & HDR Support - 4 Inputs, 2 Outputs by Darryel Tokarczyk

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The first was unsuccessful; The second works great for my setup!

Disclaimer/TLDR: I fixed some support issues, but when it works, it works as it should! The initial problems were due to a faulty first unit. The second matrix sent works like a charm! Be aware of black screens on the display between switching due to downscaling or input resolution and output resolution, this is normal. The audio output options are amazing. I'll buy another one and a spare. ** Image of my living room and desktop. **** Make sure the HDMI cables are not too thick. The matrix stacks pairs of HDMI connectors on top of each other, so if the HDMI cable plugs are thick, they won't connect together. LAST UPDATE January 2021: I can't believe how time flies. I've been using this matrix for over a year now and it still works wonders. My only gripe at the moment is the black screens between I/O changes. Since the matrix is set to 4K, it takes longer to display on my second 1080p monitor due to downsampling. Sometimes longer than most, especially PS5. I can try and find a 4K resolution PC monitor to see if that fixes the problem as no downsampling is required. My other problem is the remote control. It's very picky. But the manual buttons on the device work fine, if not easily reversed (Display 1 is the bottom row of lights, but the left button; you can assume that Display 1 is the top row and left button). I connected my Arctis Pro. A wireless hub with optical or AUX ports will do wonders to ensure the main input can properly output to the audio source (handy if you want to use headphones instead of a soundbar connected to your TV. Just remember to turn off the HDMI audio). I am planning to connect a Panasonic SoundSlayer to my Display 2 via HDMI to install on my PC. Chat sound connected via USB! MY SETTINGS as of 2021: INPUTS: (6ft cable matters, thin HDMI) 1. PC2. Xbox3. Nintendo Switch4. PS5 OUTPUTS: (Various 25ft HDMI) A - 70" Vizio V-Series 4K HDRB - 32" MSI Optix AG32C HD The best part is that PS5 and XBOX 4k HDR output with no issues when EDID is set to the correct settings . I have 1101, 4k stereo (stereo was just for me; there are more sound settings!). Note: If EDID is set to auto (0000), it will always switch to 1080p without HDR. Please read the manual for your desired specific settings! =============================================== === =============================== Previous Notes: Updated 2019-12-01 (almost done!): At first I was concerned, that my system is not compatible with the device or that the device is defective. Luckily it was the last. I've tried many workarounds to get consistent output from the Matrix, including Cable Matters' multi-level customer service. They then sent me a replacement pad and return label for the previous matrix. Looks like I have a bad first block. There was a misunderstanding of signals everywhere (receiving power from HDMI monitor or sending odd signals to TV (no signal problems)). The bottom line is that you can see my setup above, it works with all of that and outputs crisp 2160/HDR with ease (of course the Switch has a lower native resolution). I'll try using a Toslink cable and an additional 3.5mm cable to see if the audio can be split the same way. 15ft Toslink to Arctis Pro Wireless and 30ft Aux to Razer Leviathan. Will be updated for final results!======================================= == === ==================================Detailed problem notes (solved by purchasing a replacement box): PROBLEM 1: The HDMI -Connection from output B to my 32" MSI Optix seems to pass power from the monitor to the matrix. Interestingly, the downside is that the matrix is somehow locked (no switch or remote function) until the power is cycled. PROBLEM 2: After the first perfect setup, the 4kTV output A didn't detect a signal the second time I turned on the setup. . Output B of the MSI Optix was fine. I found that the problem was in the output A cable. I will provide more information in the next fix. switch to loop out) to make it work again. Anything works here as long as you can reset the output. The manual says that both the output and the input should reset if no signal is found. It works when I turn off PS4 completely instead of turning on rest mode. At the moment of successful troubleshooting, the connections work perfectly. 4K UHD HDR works great with the very demanding PS4 Pro and XBOX ONE X. Knowing that this matrix will be accepted by these consoles for my TV is all I need to be happy with this less than $80 purchase to be. Upgrade to 5 stars if Cable Matters customer service can help me with a more permanent solution to my problems. In the meantime I'll try updating the firmware and swapping out some of the cords so they fit better in outlets. ============================================== = === =========== . . This time I was more systematic. The final solution was to disable and reinstall the HDMI output A from my 4k TV. Cable Matters would like me to return the item at this point as my complicated descriptions seem to confuse them but I will try swapping out the cables first and see if that is the problem. They asked me to try the shorter cables that came with it. This is pretty strange as it's just an initial setup. As if everything needed a warm-up or a nudge. But it gets frustrating that I have to fix bugs for the third time every day. =_=” Hopefully the new cables I ordered will make a difference. I will keep updating. Otherwise, I'll probably have to treat myself to the Cable Matters block replacement (offered). Cables are useless. (No pun intended). Replacement is not far away.
