Review on The Ultimate Powerhouse: LIFEbar ChocoMaca Pea Protein Powder - Fuel Your Body with Plant Based Superfoods by Anthony Wiley

good ingredients. Good nutritional value (0.5 g saturated fat, 1 g sugar). Good taste. Kind of expensive.

This powder blend has a good ingredient list: Cocoa, Hemp Seed, Pea Protein, Maca, Sacha Inchi, Coconut Milk Powder, Monk Fruit Sweetener, Stevia Powder, Cinnamon, Ginger Root, Vanilla Bean, and Sea Salt. With the exception of the sea salt, all the ingredients are organic. I'm guessing they're organic, but I'd feel a lot more confident if the product was certified by the USDA or some other official certification. When cocoa comes first in the ingredients, it means that, in descending order of quantity, it is the largest quantity and is responsible for the good taste of chocolate. This is really a very tasty mix. I suggest trying it with hot almond milk for a healthy hot chocolate. One serving (32 g) contains 120 calories. It contains 15g protein, only 0.5g saturated fat (4.5g total fat) and 11g carbohydrates (only 1g total sugars!). For a protein drink, less than 50% protein isn't a fantastic ratio. Although for a chocolate drink - excellent. So it all depends on how you feel about this powder. I like protein sources, hemp seed, pea and poppy protein. I already consume hemp and maca seeds daily. I also use pea protein (in baked goods or in protein powders). So I know these ingredients. Priced at $40 with only 14 servings, this is an expensive protein supplement. And honestly, it's actually more than just a protein powder. Maca is an adaptogen with many health benefits. Sacha inchi are large edible seeds "rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, protein and other substances such as vitamin E and beta-sitosterol". (internet resource). However, the price/portion ratio is still expensive. Good taste, good nutritional value, acceptable source of protein, good ingredients are the positive qualities of this product. The lack of an official organic certification and the price/portion ratio have a negative impact on the rating. Hence, it gets a 4-star rating.
