After I decided to build a small stereo to play music from my computer and iPod the owner of the stereo store I checked out said I should Yamaha listen MSP5 monitors he had. He explained that I would not need to buy an amplifier as the speakers would be powered ie. Each speaker has internal amplifiers, one for the woofer and one for the tweeter. I was a bit skeptical at first because it seemed like a very simple fix, but once he plugged it in and turned it on I was hooked. They're made for recording studios, but are great for home use. They have a very good soundstage for such a small speaker and are extremely detailed. They are loud and don't distort. If you're into music, you'll probably want high bitrate music rips, as these speakers make the higher quality shine and highlight the poor sound quality of lower bitrate rips. They even have balanced XLR jacks for better sound quality. I couldn't be happier with them. I'm even thinking about making a case for them so I can take them with me on trips so I always have an amazing sound with me. Haven't heard how they sound with a matching subwoofer, but I think that would be impressive too.
