Review on Nutritious and Delicious Purina Beyond Simply Grain Free, Natural, Adult Indoor Dry Cat Food by Nelly Villanueva

Too Many Carbs

While my cats loved this dry food, I learned a hard lesson about cat nutrition from it: grain-free doesn't mean carb-free. My 14 year old tuxedo boy developed diabetes after eating this for six months. While I can't blame Purina (I'm the owner here, after all), I believe pet food manufacturers should help educate pet owners about the dangers of too many carbohydrates in a cat's diet, and they should strive to reduce the amount of carbohydrates in their food ingredients as much as possible. Our obligate predator friends need a high-protein diet, and any high-carb diet like this — pea protein, pea starch, cassava root meal, and sweet potatoes — will set some cats up for long-term health problems.
