I have two cats who started "protest peeing" in the carpeted basement of our rented home (they don't like the dogs we adopted). In the last 6 months I've tried just about everything I can think of including steam cleaning, using mixtures of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and vinegar, and using other enzymatic and bacterial cleaners. I decided on AIP after the rave reviews and bought 2 gallons first, then two orders of 4 gallons each. So, to date I've treated my carpets with a total of 10 gallons of AIP (I didn't even spray, I just poured it onto the carpet from gallon jugs) but it hasn't worked. At first the basement smelled a lot better when I dumped stuff, but as soon as we had a warm day or water got on the carpet, the smell came back with a vengeance. Another downside is that the AIP turned the carpet yellow everywhere I poured it. Now I've hired a professional carpet cleaner and if that doesn't work I'll have to replace the carpet and backing for $1,300.
