Doesn't work as intended

Doesn't work. Day one, it didn't work. I set it up according to the attached guide and it doesn't work as advertised. One side gets unbearably hot on low settings and doesn't turn off at all (I have to turn it off for it to turn off). The other side doesn't heat up unless it's turned on. It was the first time I used it! It didn't work right out of the box. disgust and disappointment. It wasn't cheap! Pooh! So sick that these things don't work! Isn't there a manufacturer that makes an electric blanket or mattress pad that lasts more than a week?
