Review on Hellwig 1560 LP 15 Helper Spring by Daniel Pierce

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Tough, reliable and simple

I bought these for my 1989 Toyota pickup truck based motor home to reduce rear body roll. The car already has airbags, which do an excellent job of leveling the suspension, but they still seem to allow for some "softness" in the ride, which gets a bit annoying at highway speeds, in crosswinds, or on twisty roads. The .Hellwig LP-15 is a strong, heavy-duty auxiliary leaf spring. They went very easily and matched the existing feathers very well. I have them set for minimal engagement but they could increase the ground clearance slightly if I wanted to. My intention is to allow the airbags to continue their main ride height adjustment (quicker to hit each side with an air hose than counting turns on a bunch of nuts under the rig), with secondary springs adding extra stiffness. In short, the LP-15s were perfect for my purposes and I would highly recommend them. If I had to choose between airbags and those secondary springs, I would choose the LP-15 for its simplicity and better ability to stiffen the ride.

Pros
  • Brings new life to old springs and reduces body roll
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
