Difficult installation

Not sure about those who say it's plug and play. wasn't for me. I have the latest Acer laptop (2018) Swift 3-15.6 with the latest version and updates for Windows 10. First, my laptop didn't recognize the dock. After everything was plugged in and plugged into the laptop, NOTHING. Well, it's time for a reboot. Now my laptop sees the device. I had it update every driver it ever needed and after I got it all figured out I started again. Still recognizes the dock but nothing goes to the monitor. Fair warning, the web address in the quickstart guide leads to a dead webpage. There's no help anywhere else to look, so go to the support page and look for software drivers. The only software updates will take you to a third party video driver website. There you will have to play a guessing game as to which driver you need to download. You might think downloading the latest version is the right answer, but no, the installation process told me I already have the latest graphics driver. OK, let's restart. Nothing yet. I called the Kensington helpdesk. It was a useless waste of time. I followed the guys instructions and still nothing was different from what I experienced, bye bye Felicia. My only solution would be to box it up and send it back. No, I'm not giving up easily. Return to square one. I did a restore point and went back to where I was before the connection. Restarted video software and now it works. My Samsung LCD monitor normally has a clean and sharp display, but when connected to the docking station, the monitor appears a little fuzzy/fuzzy (HDMI). When I connect the monitor directly to my laptop, the colors are bright, crisp, and sharp. What a disappointment. Sure, I can connect a monitor directly to my laptop, but doesn't that defeat the point of buying a docking station? Eliminate the need to connect all devices every time? My advice: look elsewhere.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
