Good ladder with some flaws

The material quality of this ladder is good but there are few assembly instructions. The instructions consist of a tiny diagram showing the location of each part. Study each part before you begin, as not all crossbars are created equal. It's the differences that determine where they belong. This is not obvious on the diagram and there are no written assembly instructions or markings on the parts. That said, it's not that hard to build if you don't mind racking your brains over it. Assembly was slow, but everything was going fine until I tightened the last screw. This screw secures a round pin that acts as a safety bar at the top of the stool. The dowel fits very snugly into the cutouts that hold it in place. When I tried to insert the dowel into the cutout by tightening the screw on one side of the dowel, the screw broke in half, leaving me with a broken screw in the dowel and no way to attach it to the side rail. I had to buy a screw extractor to remove the broken screw and find a new screw to finish the job. There are no extra screws included in this kit. I recommend not over tightening the screws when tightening. If you encounter more resistance than usual, use a drill to enlarge the screw hole before proceeding. This can save you the hassle of broken screws. When assembled, the step stool chair becomes durable and safe for children. It's strong enough to stand on and I weigh 150 pounds.
