I bought a Dell PC format tablet (not Windows RT). The only available connection is USB 3.0 and a headphone jack. I really like having two monitors and prefer a wired network connection. It gave me all of that, plus an easy way to connect other USB devices with a single cable. Make sure you get your display drivers directly from DisplayLink, especially if you're using Windows 8.1 and the cable that came with it is quite short and in my setup put too much strain on the cable and connectors. It can be easily replaced with a USB A to USB B cable. This device will work with either a USB 2 cable, USB 3 cable, or a computer with limited bandwidth if everything isn't USB 3 Mode 2.
