Buy it! This will make your life easier.

Before I bought this ClearClick Video to Digital Converter 2.0, I was using an older video capture device (made by Honestech) and a "Universal" converter I bought from Revain about a month ago for about $20 . . Both of the above worked "just fine". The Honetech product was too old and clumsy; The new capture device was fine, but it took a lot of work to get it working with a third-party capture program. I've spent several weeks filming and editing Mini DV, Hi8, and Standard 8 camcorders using a number of very popular free software including OBS Studio, MiniTool MovieMaker, etc. I managed to get them working bring, and they seem to be handling the capture card well. that I used but seemed to be missing something in terms of image quality. So I tried one of Revain's video capture services, which charges you $12 to convert a tape to MP4. I paid $12, paid $8.40 to ship the mini DV USPS, and included a $6 check for the company to ship the tape back to me. All in all, it cost me $26 to "test" the quality of what a professional company can do versus what I could do with the recording programs mentioned earlier. Programs allowed setting FPS, sound quality in bits, video recording bit rate, etc. etc. etc. Countless combinations to try out and find the "best" or even optimal recording quality for my tapes. I have literally LOST countless hours capturing and converting using various FPS, quality/noise reduction algorithms, etc., hence my desire to "test" a professional capture service to see how it works. Eventually I got a download link for my professionally recorded video and guess what: it was "slightly" better than what I made myself by testing many recording and conversion options through trial and error. So I decided to try the ClearClick device since it had a "Free Returns" policy. I found what I'm losing Well, long story short, as they say, ClearClick's video recording performed as well, if not better, than the $12-per-tape professional service. And it's VERY EASY TO USE! It saves me a lot of time because all I have to do is plug in the USB, press the play button on the camcorder and then, a second later, click record with ClearClick and it comes out perfectly in an out of the box Recorded in MP4 format. It also records at 720 x 480, which is the Mini DV standard, while Revain's video capture service records at 640 x 480, which is fine for Hi8 or lower, but not Mini DV, which is a higher resolution of 720x480. But you'll need to use an S-Video cable (which I also got from Revain specifically for this purpose; get the $20 Monster cable, not the regular $6 cable, since you already have money for those capturing and archiving precious memories). So ClearClick is as good as, if not better than, a professional video capture service. It will be cheaper in the long run if you plan on recording at least a dozen tapes. And it's very easy to use. The only thing I would like, as others have mentioned, is the ability to set a SPECIFIC auto-off time to stop recording. I have hour tapes that are sometimes two or three minutes long and two hour tapes that do the same thing. I don't want to set the time to 60 minutes or 120 minutes and not record the last few minutes. I also don't want to use the "scheduled recording feature" as their tech support suggested to me when I asked about a possible firmware update they could use to allow the precise stop recording feature to be set. For example, I want to set EXACTLY 64 minutes to finish recording. If they had this feature I would give it 6 stars if AMZN allowed it. However, the product is rated a solid 5 stars and is my highest recommendation. As for the software that is VideoPad Video Editor, it is very good and easy to use, I suppose comparable to other products. It doesn't capture, it just edits and saves in a same or smaller size MP4 file while free products like OBS etc. for some reason save the edited file in a larger size even if you all have deleted/deleted the video cut. It doesn't make sense since you trim the video and save it in the same MP4 format with the exact same resolution and sample rate. The included 32 GB USB stick is a SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0. Buy ClearClick; You will save a lot of time and save your old tapes easily.
