The best hobby printer on the market

Qidi makes very good 3D printers. I have a feeling that since this printer is advertised as an industrial printer it has some downsides. However, if you consider it a hobby printer, it's probably the best there is. Advantages: 1) QIDI after-sales service. Emails to support staff were answered within 24 hours, always with helpful tips and a positive attitude. Some of my cons below have been addressed, or at least attempted to be addressed, by the very helpful and patient QIDI reps. 2) QIDI supports its product. I needed a spare, I'm in California. QIDI shipped it from China and it was here 4-5 days. This is incredible considering we are in quarantine due to Covid-19. Well done! 3) The printer prints PLA very well. 4) Countertops are very useful when they work. 5) The overall design of the printer gives you excellent value for money. the surface sticks to some materials. And tears removing the stickier bits that ruin the build plate. And the countertops cost about $20 each. I've already gone through 3 in less than a month. QIDI should include a more durable glass printing surface. 2) Documentation is incomplete and sometimes confusing, for example the X-Plus comes with an "extruder upgrade" but no installation is required unless printing from vinyl. The manual makes it a necessary upgrade. 3) No Simplify3D online compatibility. The Wi-Fi feature is a bit useless when I can't connect to the printer in Simplify3D. 4) The included slicing software is poorly documented, including obvious programming errors. For example, if you import a model and try to "center" the model for printing, the Qidi software places the model in the wrong place about 1 meter outside of the build space. Thus, even such a basic function as centering the print is impossible without manual placement. The slicing process also takes a long time compared to Simplify3D.5) The print is only slightly better than on cheaper printers, there is no dramatic increase in quality or print speed. I've noticed a more reliable printing experience, but I've had a lot of issues lately, which puts my success rate at around 50-60%. 6) Language/translation issues. English is not very good in the supplied literature. This makes the company unprofessional if you speak English. I think it would be useful for QIDI if a native English speaker edited its documentation and improved the company's image in the eyes of western customers. Their translations are 85-90% perfect, but they could easily reach 100% with updated translations. 7) Customer service was friendly and helpful, but the instructional/educational videos provided with the replies were incomplete. QIDI should create more comprehensive tutorial videos to solve common problems. It's not the fault of their service people who just pass the information along. I think QIDI will benefit from more comprehensive tutorial videos to help customers. 8) Problems with preheating. I can't get my extruder to automatically heat up when printing. I set the temperature correctly in Simplify3D. I've even done it successfully with this printer in the past. I am using the QIDI printer profile in Simplify3D. Worked and then stopped. I have to manually preheat and then start printing. I can't just print the file and heat the bed and extruder to the right temperature. The bed is heated, the extruder is not. Extremely disappointing. 9) The filament/spool design is problematic. This has been mentioned in several reviews. To put it simply, if you print large type, you're going to have a bad time. Qidi recommended to solve this problem after changes in the market. 10) I wish you could just update the firmware from a wifi connected printer. You will need to download the firmware installation files to a USB drive on your computer, insert the USB drive into the printer and "print" this file to install. I wish the firmware update could be managed over a wifi connection. Summary: In summary, this is a great home printer. This is not an industrial 3D printer in my opinion. If I bought this hobby printer I would be very impressed. If it's marketed as an industrial printer, I'll be disappointed. I still find it good value for money, but too unreliable for industrial use. Especially given the fundamental flaws in the underlying design, such as B. buggy slicer software, Wi-Fi incompatibility with Simplify3D and a poorly designed thread management system.

Pros
  • Latest slicer software version 5.6.4: The redesigned interface of the QIDI software is smarter and more convenient to use. He changed the software slicing algorithm and improved print quality by 30 percent and speed by 20 percent. QIDI software is compatible with all kinds of QIDI printers, free for life, an alternative to paid software. (If you have an older version, please download the latest version from QIDI official website).
