Rubber boots sometimes get dirty
As others have mentioned, there are times when boots arrive visibly used. Dirt on the tread and sometimes a film on the boot itself. The boots were the same for my two kids in terms of waterproofing and comfort, but I'm usually disappointed with how they initially come across.
