Great slider for DSLR

I use it with GH2. The Manfrotto 501 HDV mounted on the slider, the tripod attached under the rails and the system works great for both slider movement and panning. Tilt is a minor issue. When I try to lean up, the friction on the back rail increases, and when I lean down, there is pressure on the front rail. I have to manually push with the hand moving the slider to compensate and get smooth movement. It works great, but it's hard to figure out. Moving back and forth is easier than tilting side to side. Drilling the holes was a little more difficult but worth the savings over the pre-drilled version. The slider has a nice smooth movement and the slider has screws designed to adjust the friction and even lock the slider in the down position. Be careful not to loosen them too much or the slider will wobble a bit on the rails. I only use two settings: locked and 5 clicks looser than locked (ratchet screws, handy for finding the optimal setting and keeping it in place). The screws are tightened with an Allen key, so it's a little awkward (hand screws would be better). If anyone finds hand screws that could replace the screws in the slider please reply to this review and let me know. The rails are strong, but due to the weight of my head and camera, the outside edges buckled a bit when I had a tripod. installed in the middle. I think it will be more skewed even with a lighter 701+ camera head because my 501 alone makes it a bit more skewed. I've since set up a tripod on one end and used a stand on the other end. It was difficult to get a good, level track at first, but I got good results by first adjusting the tripod so it was horizontal, then moving my head and camera to the center of the track, and the light stand at the other end raised to bubble level. My tripod head reads the spirit level. Some complain because there is no stopper on the ends, but pennies for a 1.5" metal L-bracket and a screw to attach it with a pre-drilled hole in the end made an easy fix for this problem. although it's not as pretty as treated splints. There is a groove on the underside of the rail which fitted my mount perfectly so once it was tightened it stopped moving. I had a hard time finding a good way to carry it, but found a 40" padded CobraCrane bag that fits perfectly. and has a padded divider so my tripod, Manfrotto 501 head and light stand are on one side and the slider on the other so there are no bumps in transit, all in one handy bag. This slider has a few downsides . Compared to the $1000 Kessler CineSlider, but at 1/10th the price, there is nothing on the market that compares to this slider. Solid 5 stars for this slider that's perfect for hobbyists with simple setups.
