Review on Travel With Ease: Brenthaven Metrolite Backpack For 15.6 Inch Devices, Perfect Plane Carry On Bag With Rugged Protection In Black by Adam Jackson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Don't be fooled by the pictures - nicely compact but adequate.

Everything I wanted in a backpack for my ultrabook and iPad, with just enough extra storage for a minimal amount of cables, portable hard drive, charging bricks, etc. I ordered and returned 3 others before getting this one, thinking it would be to bulky. In my opinion, the pictures don't do this pack justice in regards to size/bulk. For me, it's perfect in size - not the slimmest, but not as big as the pictures conveyed to me. The laptop compartment is very well padded, the extra pockets are all pretty well placed and the zippers are excellent in terms of the zipper "handles" and smoothness of the "zip".A some things I'm not crazy about: 1) there is a at the bottom of the back which I'm not sure what it's for and, more importantly, the placement. However, I thought it would be noticeable when I had the pack on, but it is not, so no big deal. 2) The x-ray friendly is not necessary and kind of a gimmick. There are at least a few airports - the ones I've used over the past few years - that require you take the laptop out of the bag, x-ray friendly or not. Given this, could have saved a zipper and some weight by eliminating this feature. 3) The white stitching is nice but looks like it could get frayed easily and/or may not weather well in terms of staying white. However, since Brenthaven has a lifetime warranty, I'm not worried about this (weathering notwithstanding). 5) As another reviewer mentioned, the handle could be a bit more sturdy, but this is nitpicking for the sake of the review. 6) The shoulder straps I'm going to have to get used to - it doesn't seem like the pack is secure enough as the pads are kind of stiff. The last pack I had felt much more secure when on my back or carried on one shoulder as the straps/pads molded better. That said, again, it could be just an adjustment/getting used to period. So, overall, this is an excellent backpack to carry a small laptop/ultrabook, and iPad, and room for accessories, printed material, chargers, etc. It's exceptionally well designed in terms of the compact yet adequate size. I would buy the item again and again - it's perfect for my needs.

Pros
  • The backpack has a convenient top handle, making it easy to grab and go
Cons
  • Lacks necessary organizational pockets for frequent travelers
