Review on Scorpion EXO ST1400 Carbon Street Motorcycle by Tim Nicholas

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite helm in the citadel.

My measurements showed a medium size but other reviewers advised me to go up a size as it still fits snugly. I tried XL and it was too big so I contacted the manufacturer to see if there were any thinner cheek pads and problem areas and they said no, Large is a custom case size, there is only one size of cheek pads available. However, they said removing the cheek pads, moistening them and squeezing them under something heavy overnight. According to them, it only shortens the break time and makes it much more comfortable. I still have enough pressure on my cheeks that I'm careful not to bite them while riding, but it's now in a comfortable range and I've worn it for a couple of hours with no hot spots, so general head position is correct. It's not much lighter than my old HJC, but it's noticeable when you put them on individually and it feels a little better to slice through the wind at speed, which is nice since I don't use a windbreak. It has a good build and feels premium, it was easy to remove and replace the padding to install a headset, and it had nice deep ear pockets for the speakers that came with foam and padding to keep out the noise keeping it low until I had something installed. The internal sun visor is definitely a nice feature that I wouldn't want to be without now that I've tried the helmet without it, but the clarity could be a little better, although I don't know how much more clarity you could do. Get Get something designed with safety in mind, as I suspect not smashing your eyes in an accident is more important on the list than excellent optical clarity. It's not bad, I just wish it was a little bit better. It fogs up less than my previous cap, I guess due to the nose sticking up a bit, which I thought I wouldn't like, but other than that I have to tilt my head down a bit to see my mounted sensor on I got used to the tank. Given the materials of construction and overall quality it seems like a good value and I'm happy with my first $200+ helmet.

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
