Review on MoKo Case Fit New IPad Air (3Rd Generation) 10 by Roger Alexander

Not bad, but the angle of the stand isn't good

My husband loves light, thin, minimalist cases and doesn't like anything that leaves greasy fingerprints. He wanted a case that (1) didn't have its own built-in or Bluetooth keyboard, (2) allowed him to easily connect and disconnect the Smart Keyboard, and (3) had its own screen cover (he was tired of using them too heavy to use the smart keyboard as a cover) . He liked the blue color and the reviews confirmed that you can connect a Smart Keyboard, so I ordered it. He had it for about 3 weeks. Pros: 1) the blue color is nice, 2) it's thick and doesn't look like it will fray/peel/crack with normal use. Generally durable materials. 3) You CAN connect the Smart Keyboard without removing the case, and you can use the case in stand mode while typing on the keyboard. I think the safest way to do this is to flip the cover straight back, use the Smart Keyboard Stand feature, and then wrap the case cover around the keyboard stand or just leave it loose). 4) The hard plastic body is sharp around the edges, but the flat back has a matte texture. My guess is that this reduces fingerprints and improves grip a bit than if it were all clear, smooth plastic. Cons: 1) It's thick (see photo of the cutouts in the case). Well, that's a personal matter; Each has their own level of comfort to balance minimal weight/thinness and good protection. I wouldn't be embarrassed but my husband was disappointed with the weight and thickness. Although it's thick, the cutouts are well made so you can easily use the power/volume buttons. 2) The shell only covers the front of the iPad on the right side and about 1/2 inch on either side on the left side (to connect the keyboard). The rest of the case, including the corners, is flat even with the bezel (see photo). It looks good, but I'm concerned about the fall protection. I've had bezel dents before and prefer to cover as much of the bezel as possible, especially the corners. If you choose to use a screen protector (me and my husband don't use this case) it's visible and easy to feel in those rough edges. I like a case that fits the bezel so the screen protector fits snugly on top. 3) The hard body definitely leaves fingerprints and greases easily. It's also easy to wash, but you'll have to clean a lot. The front cover hides fat better. I personally don't like the feel of the front cover. Sit back rigidly in a standing position. In general, I prefer materials from my husband's old KHOMO case for his old iPad. 4) The stand angle is just UNCOMFORTABLE. The magnet is strong - don't worry, the iPad will fall in stand mode - but it's a LITTLE steeper angle than with the Smart Keyboard's stand function or any other case we've used. Check out the photos comparing the angles of my husband's iPad in the Moko case to my iPad in Apple's original smart case. This makes typing on the on-screen keyboard awkward and difficult. I know, I know there is a Smart Keyboard. But you don't always have your Smart Keyboard with you, or you just want to take it with you for typing. It also makes the iPad a little more prone to leaning forward when you're standing on a soft surface (like the armrest of a sofa - c'mon, we all do that!). This angle problem is really a sticking point for my husband. The previous 3 negatives can really be negated, especially given the cheap price of the case. But I'll look for another cover for him - probably HOMO.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • Without insurance
