Seems to be durable, I would hand wash as it won't stand up to machine washing. It stands on its own with a durable foam core. Larger than expected, it will definitely fit a small to medium sized cat or rabbit or a very small dog. The only problem I had was I was sent the wrong color, the correct color sticker came on the package and then a new wrong color sticker was put on top. It's not really a big deal, not worth the hassle of returning it, but I spent the extra money on other supplies for my pet so they can color coordinate their space.
