I don't really understand why people think spiked collars are cruel - in fact, they're a great educational tool. I have tried all other types of collars and harnesses - this collar finally allows me to walk my retriever mastiff mix around the area. I can control them without tearing my hands from my joints and without choking on convulsions. I chose the X-lrg (160 lbs) for the Dane and the medium (70 lbs) for the retriever. ah, for want of better work, something like the martindale effect, the collar is fine.
