I use them for many things including locking the pistol compartment in my shooting bags and the ammo boxes I carry in the car. They are very convenient and easy to set up with your own 3 digit code. The steel wire is long enough to securely lock almost anything, yet you can turn the lock so you can see the numbers and unlock it. It's that easy to change the combination. 1) Put a lock on the current combination that unlocks it but doesn't unlock it. The default combination is 000.2) Below the last digit is a small silver lever. Move it to the right. You can use a toothpick. 3) Set the combination to the desired new combination 4) Move the lever back to the left. The lock will now open with a new combination. The problem with them became apparent when I went on a trip to Europe and used them to lock my suitcases. On the way there everything was fine with no problems, but on the way back security guards opened one of my bags with their key. When I returned home I found that one of the locks still opens with whatever combination I set on the dial. This is where I noticed that the TSA keyhole wasn't parallel to the lock body as usual. I was able to fix the lock with a screwdriver and put the keyhole back in the locked position, but the fact remains my suitcase was unlocked after TSA used their key and I can no longer trust these locks for trips to the airport. While these locks are perfect for many of my needs and would have given 5 stars, I gave them 3 stars because I can no longer use them for travel.
