I understand why third graders I teach love to coax buttons out of me. I won't take her to school. I sew a piece each to the sides of the baseball cap and to the headbands to attach the elastics around the mask. This is more convenient than tying a rubber band around your ears. I was worried the elastic would come loose or the buttons fall off, but so far so good. I sewed them on fairly well, running a few rounds of thread between the bottom of the buttons and the fabric so they protruded a bit over the hat/headband. Just like Ms. V. taught me at 4-H.
