This is for Level 2 EV Charger (7.2 kW). We have had this charger for about 6 years. About a month ago it became intermittent. We bought a new charger. Then, after taking the old charger apart, I found that it contained about 6 tablespoons of water. We had a lot of wind and rain from the east (the wall it was mounted on) but still. Why? Only the two screw terminals for the coil on the contactor were corroded. One of them broke when I touched it. I bought a 50 amp contactor, attached new terminals to the wires and put in a new contactor. Now this charger is working properly again. But you can bet I've settled on a fully waterproof case that I can fit the electronics into as soon as I have time so we have a spare. These things usually cost five or six hundred dollars, by the way. It arrived this morning. Decided to hurry as there are no reviews yet. There will be a bit of work moving the electronics in, but this thing is amazing! It's all aluminum, but still pretty - almost very - heavy. In other words, it's REALLY THICK aluminum! The reason I got it (aside from the size) is the captive seal. It's a round rubber gasket that fits into a deep groove - a groove so deep it actually has walls. The other half of the body has a thick tab that fits into a groove when reassembling. So when tightening the screws, it completely covers the rubber seal on all sides so it can't leak. That's what I was looking for. The half that comes off isn't just a plate. It has a 13/16 wall all around. This prevents it from deforming like a valve cover on older cars, breaking the gasket under the bolts and creating almost no pressure between the bolts. Because of that wall, and especially because it's such a thick metal, it can't be deformed. That's another thing I was looking for. Don't quote me or sue me, but I have a feeling you can put it in the ocean, leave it there for 50 years, and let your grandkids trail behind it, and everything in it will be intact. and dry. This is something beautiful! It is grey. Looks powder coated I think. As an added bonus that works great for me, it has six >threaded< screw holes inside the top and bottom two tabs (short sides) for attaching components. I don't have to drill any holes except for the power cord and charging cord holders which will be at the bottom and gravity will be on my side. Let's put it this way: I expected a lot for $60. So consider me very pleasantly surprised and feel like a genius for holding back cheaper cases after a few hours of shopping. Pay now or pay later. This box couldn't have been better if I hadn't made it to order. I don't even want to think about how much it's going to cost. I can't believe you will be disappointed if you are looking for a quality waterproof box!
