I love shooting with this camera! This is exactly what I needed to take my photography skills to the next level. The lenses in the kit are surprisingly good and light, qualities that don't often come together in one lens. That's fast even compared to the best P&S cameras (I had a Canon S3 IS before). IS in the body is a nice feature so I don't have to buy more expensive lenses to get this feature. The JPEG white balance seems a bit off (too much white by default) so I just shoot in RAW which solves this problem. You can also adjust the white balance, but figured I'd better do that in one post. Picasa handles RAW files well, so I don't have to use the Olympus software, which seems clunky to me. Maybe someday when my finances are back I'll pick up Lightroom to do a bit more post-processing. The Live View feature sounds good on paper, but it's not that helpful in practice. I might as well just take a picture and see how it looks instead of a live preview. If it's useless, I can just delete it. The only really annoying thing about this camera is the Olympus proprietary USB port. Why do they have to do this?!?! What could have been a five star product becomes a four star product. There's no good reason to take a standard like a mini-USB connector and change it in a way that requires your customers to buy special cables. But even with this shortcoming, it was worth it. Low-light AF isn't great (slow) and uses the flash to get focus lock, distracting your subjects and kind of spoiling the mood you often create in a picture. bad lighting conditions. Focusing is fast and accurate in sunlight. I also have an Olympus macro extension tube, which is great if you love shooting macro but don't want to spend money on an entire separate lens. A tube with a 40-150 lens will take some good macro shots (manual focus only) without much expense. Other recommended accessories would be a Zing neoprene case (standard size SLR that fits any lens) and a couple of UV protection filters to keep the optics clean and safe. All in all, highly recommended if you want to get into the world of digital SLR photography without having to take out a second mortgage.
