Wool for the core is suitable for stuffed animals etc. I use it as a base for my felted sculptures. It falls off very easily and takes color well, forming a muted matte shade. I first run my material through a drum card to fluff it up and add fibers that go in more than one direction. This results in a more pliable fiber with all staple lengths ready to be joined together in any shape. (You can card with two flat, coat-style dog brushes.) Don't use this on anything close to leather. The best application is wet felting or needle felting, spinning into coarse yarn, carpets and bags. Look for low micron merino lambswool for silky softness. The price of base wool should be much lower per pound than luxury fibers.
