I ordered a size 5 for my 50th percentile child who just turned 6. He is short and slim. I had to pull the adjustable waist up a few inches on either side and the pants still moved a bit. The legs are also very wide. Lots of freedom of movement but feels a little baggy (we're used to wearing tight pants and jogging bottoms). I love the gathered ankles and the fabric feels light.
