Review on πŸ”₯ Syba 5 Bay Tool Less Tray Hot Swappable External USB 3.0 Enclosure for SATA III RAID HDD - Windows MacOS Compatible by Larry Morris

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent box of Iffy control software for Macintosh.

This is a great price. As with other reviews here, I am blown away by the build quality and inclusions of this product. It comes with a few dozen small screws, which you only need when installing 2.5-inch drives. And it comes with cables for eSATA and USB 3.0, and those aren't the usual short cables that come with drives - there's a bit of room here for gaming. I haven't measured them but they are good. The POWER CORD is only a few meters long, but it is a standard 3-prong IEC power cord! You can get it cheap anywhere as long as you don't already have a few spares. The RAID app is fun! I spent the day changing modes and testing speeds. I've had RAID devices before, but I've never created a RAID, and it was pretty easy with the software that came with it. I don't need to have used software to set up drives in it. I had an old 2009 Promise 6400 4-bay case and bay 4 was failing, so I took a chance using this Syba box to replace the failing Promise. I had the latest 4x 5TB hard drives from this box and the 5th 5TB hard drive as a spare so they came in and it works fine on my 2012 Mac Mini with El Capitan. I'm logging in via eSATA to a Thunderbolt to eSATA dongle that I used with Promise RAID. I am currently working in RAID5. In any mode, I got about 200MB/s from this thing. Great box so far. If anything changes I will update this review. Have a nice day everyone!Update: A week has passed. The device is fine, but the HW RAID Manager software for Mac does not recognize the enclosure now, although the RAID volume still mounts correctly on my desktop. I switched from eSATA to a USB connection to see if that helps, but that didn't change anything. I uninstalled the software management app and all of its settings and did a clean reinstall, but the device still doesn't show up. It turned out that when I run the app from my DOC the drives don't show up, but when I run the app from the apps folder the app works fine! So do it and everything will be fine. RAID hardware is exceptionally well designed, affordable, and operates at very low temperatures. I love this shop!
