Review on πŸ‘Ÿ ASICS Men's Performance Running Shoes by Adrian Allen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great running shoes at an affordable price and at Asics, wide actually means wide.

I wear a 12.5 4E so finding the right shoe at a reasonable price is a nightmare. I've been a loyal New Balance owner for decades, but their quality control seems to have taken a hit lately; the sole on a $150 pair split after two weeks, and the last two pairs I bought were supposed to be "very wide," but nothing like that. Annoyed, I decided to try Asics after being told that their "baggy" shoes actually matched the description. It's true - these shoes have enough room for big feet like mine. In addition, the price was definitely right at $60! I've already run two 8k runs in these shoes. Put simply, these are rugged trail running shoes. Pros: The Asics 'gel' absorbs shock much better than I expected, both in the heel and forefoot. This adds a bit of weight to the shoe, but is a decent compromise for the beefy cushioning it offers. The Asics "Gel" is different than, for example, the Nike Air and I'm really impressed! The shoe has a neutral gait and enough arch support that my high arches don't feel neglected. The stakes also work quite well, which is a nice bonus. Overall, the shoe makes a well-made impression. The padded tongue stays in the middle of the shoe. It works in tandem with padding around the opening that firmly stabilizes the foot in the shoe. This makes the shoe feel like a glove, which I have not experienced with any other shoe. The heel to toe heel is also moderate and comfortable. Disadvantages: Lateral stability is less than desired. I tried some aerobic exercises like side walking and jumping, but eventually took off my shoes and went barefoot to avoid injuring my ankle. This is largely because, like many running shoes these days, the upper is made of a thin mesh (for breathability and probably cost-saving reasons). The full-length plastic toe box and band around the shoe feel sturdy enough for long runs. You don't even notice it, but that's all there is to say about lateral reinforcement. If you do a lot of sideways movement or tend to twist your ankles, I would look for trail running shoes or cross trainers that are specifically designed to offer stability during these activities. All in all, if you're looking for an affordable, comfortable road running shoe, I'd have no hesitation in recommending this one!

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Minor issues
