Review on TYC 621270 Mazda Mazda3 Radiator/Condenser Cooling Fan Assembly: Top Replacement Choice for Optimal Performance by Brandon Havlicek

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not a direct replacement for the Mazdaspeed 3. But plug n play after some modifications.

I used this fan on my 2008 Mazdaspeed 3 although it is not a direct replacement for my application. Of course, I knew that from the start, so it's not surprising. In the end, the new fan, controller and wiring harness were 100% ready to use. Read on if you want to know the whole story. My old fan had a strange failure mode. The fan turns on with the air conditioning compressor, but otherwise does not work. Obviously this is a normal failure mode. Since my car has automatic air conditioning, the air conditioning is on most of the time. So I didn't even notice until it got warmer recently. I figured I'd better do that before summer. The Mazdaspeed 3 fan has a different fan shroud that includes a set of shrouds to the right of the fan. If I understand correctly, they open to allow full airflow through the radiator at highway speeds, regardless of what the fan is doing. When stopping or driving slowly, gravity closes the flaps, allowing the fan to force air through the radiator. So this is the best of both worlds. However, I have decided to void the warranty entirely and reinstalled the fan, controller and wiring harness on my existing fan shroud. It's not 100% beautiful, but it's on par with the original device in form and function. I didn't have to modify anything except my old fan cover. The new fan, controller and wiring harness are all ready to go.
