I carefully wrapped it up, created an RMA (warranty case), and mailed it via CDEK to a WD service center in Hong Kong at the start of October. I was kept in sustenance for two months with assurances of care and a shortage of replacement hard disks, and then the answer came that the drive was destroyed and the warranty was denied. They were willing to either pay to have the brick sent back or dispose of it for me. I used to like WD, but this is just ridiculous.
