They're not the thickest, but they're definitely hard-wearing and easy to wash by hand; They have a weird smell, I hope it fades. Like most new furniture, it has an odor. They are made of some kind of tarpaulin material on the inside and fabric on the outside. i really love it They hold my extra candles, art supplies, spray paint etc so well on the IKEA Kallax shelves.
